DJ Bryan Hughes
(DIRTY, Gryder&Hughes, ZoeMagik Records and City of Tribes Records, San Francisco)

Producer and DJ extraordinaire, Bryan Hughes has been DJing for 12 years. In 1992, with his partner DJ Jim Hopkins (Twitch Records, San Francisco) he was the visionary behind the local independent labels ZoeMagik Records and sister label City of Tribes Records. Bryan was instrumental in signing and releasing underground artists such as Young American Primitive, Tasti Box, Daisy Glow, Single Cell Orchestra, and Essa3 on ZoeMagik; Bringing San Francisco to the forefront of the underground dance community.

Shortly after the launch of ZoeMagik, and the incredible reception by the European underground, Bryan and Jim launched City of Tribes Records. Bryan was also closely involved in San Francisco’s early rave scene in 1991 with the productions of ToonTown and Carefree.

Bryan got his big break playing New Years Eve 1993 at Product (1015 Folsom, SF). For the following three years, Bryan teamed with Lewis Walden (Sugar, San Francisco) and continued playing every Saturday night at 1015. Working with other friends, he also started an underground Friday night party called Revolution as well as Tribal (Stud, SF) on Thursday nights. Most notably, Bryan opened for Paul Oakenfold and Mark Lewis at Illuminaughty, Burningman 2000.

Currently, Bryan has taken a hiatus from DJing publicly although he is still very prolific with producing new mixes for everyone’s listening pleasure.  His last residency was at San Francisco’s hottest dance club DIRTY with his dear friends Sean Greene and Mike Russell.

Bryan has been a regular at some of San Francisco’s most notable underground parties such as Sanctuary (Sound Factory, SF), Metropolis (Barneveld, SF), Palladium (Sound Factory, SF), Bump (Cat Club, SF), Score (SF), X-Men (715 Harrison, SF), Powerhouse (SF), Club Fab (Guerneville) and Sweet (Cell Space, SF)!
